Sophies Bar

With the best carvery lunch in the district, we offer local produce cooked to the highest standards and flair by our team of experienced chefs. Later in the evening Sophie’s is the choice for anything from a steak, the best hamburgers in the west with prime beef, fresh sea catch or a selection of ethnic and salad based dishes.

Whether it's a relaxing drink after a busy day or a Guinness to celebrate any occasion, Sophies is a popular choice for locals and guests.

It’s hard to miss the painting of Lady Sophie that hangs over our ancient oak mantle fireplace. She was a local pioneering aviator and the first woman to be granted a commercial flying license. She also became the first woman to fly solo from CapeTown, South Africa to London and in 1928 she was received by President and Mrs. Cooledge.

In fact, if you look around Sophie’s bar, and throughout the Oakwood Arms, you’ll discover many fascinating aspects of Shannon pioneering aviation days from Charles Lindbergh early approval of its location, Howard Hughes and a litany of high profile visits from the Beatles to US presidents.
